Caleb is a recent Form Four graduate. He has been out of school for a whole year. His is a very sad (and unfortunately not too uncommon) tale, as he had already joined college but dropped out in first year after being conned all of his school fees by a fraudster! His father was not able get any more money to cover the lost fees. He resolved to join Elimu Cisco Networking Academy out of his passion for IT.
“It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.”
He is covering the small fees by doing casual jobs in town when not at the centre. Since the start of the corona virus pandemic which forced everyone to stay at home, he has been trying to do his studies from home though not consistently. He says that he is not able to have daily internet access since its expensive and he relies on himself. “I might buy some internet bundles today; then I skip like two days without log in into my NetAcad until I can get another hundred Kenyan shillings for more internet.” he says.
An unconducive learning environment, disruptions from his siblings and slow internet that cannot support online class meetings with the instructor are the other challenges he is facing daily. Despite all that, he has managed to complete two chapters and that motivates him to keeps on studying. He’s determined to succeed.
