Elimu is also a registered charitable organization in the U.S.A. Cindy Rodriguez, Chairperson of Elimu-USA has organized a triathlon team to raise funds for girls in Elimu’s sewing project. The girls are from vulnerable backgrounds and have been enrolled at Heri Ministries Sewing Project in Malindi, Kenya. This is a teaching facility that partners with Elimu to build confidence and drive amongst a group of girls in from rural areas through employability, entrepreneurship and digital skills. Our goal is to enable the graduates to become income generators in their community. With their sewing businesses they grow in esteem and value.
The Tri-for-Her Elimu Girls Team will be participating in the Cal Tri Irwindale event taking place Saturday, Oct. 26th. Our fearless Triathletes have given of their time and money and overcome their fears to challenge themselves with #TriForHer and benefit girls many miles away in Kenya. What a team!

Our Elimu Girls could not hide their joy upon hearing of these selfless, loving, amazing people who have sacrificed so much just to see them realize their dreams. All of us at Elimu in Kenya, despite the distance (from East Coast Kenya to West Coast California) could not just sit by and watch so to cheer them on, we sent videos of encouragement and thank you!
Among the triathletes is Shannon Ashford, owner of Tomfoolery.la who spent three weeks in Malindi in August working with Elimu sewing graduates to prepare a set of garments that she presented at her Paris Fashion Week debut in September. Click here to watch a brief clip:
