At Elimu’s charity BBQ in Ottawa last September, Anya and her Aunt Joanne delivered a box of school supplies collected from friends, family and fellow students. This week that collection of pencils, crayons, pens, sharpeners and pencil cases made it to their final destination – Upendo School in Sabaki Village.
No one is useless in this world, who lightens the burdens of another.
Upendo School was built by Elimu (completed in 2014) but is run by members of the Sabaki community. With kids back to school and settled in, we’ve started delivering our digital reading program to their students again. This week the Elimu team carried Anya’s gift of school supplies.
The pencils were enough for each child to get their own. Crayons will go to the younger classes and other items will be used by the teachers to reward good efforts. The school supplies were collected through Anya’s own initiative in Ottawa, Canada called One Pencil at a Time, to Learn more Click Here….
A huge thanks Anya and Joanne and to all of those who participated in the school supplies donations. The effort brought smiles to children and their teachers in this rural village in Kenya.
