ELIMU’S CISCO GRADUATES – THEY ROSE ABOVE!

Despite the many challenges – closures, lockdowns, cancellations, stops and starts – Elimu managed to guide over 30 young people through our Cisco Networking Academy in 2020. We were finally able to hold a small scale but very joy-filled graduation ceremony on May 6, 2021.

In fact, having only launched Cisco at Elimu Resource Centre in September 2019, last year was our first full year offering Cisco courses. We were well on track to serving close to 100 students when the Coronavirus pandemic hit Kenya and shut the Centre down to the public for nearly a whole year.

Our Cisco instructor did his best to keep his students motivated – keeping in touch with them at home and encouraging those who could to keep up their studies online from their homes. We were able to bring them back to the Centre in October when vocational training programs were allowed to resume under strict COVID-19 protocols.

Almost all of these students have been able to complete their program and receive their official Cisco certificates. They are now internationally recognized Cisco technicians able to manage a variety of software programs and to assess and do necessary maintenance of hardware. Some of these graduates have used their skills to find work. Others found a deeper interest in IT and have gone on to pursue IT studies at the tertiary level. For others it was their opportunity to gain the digital literacy that they failed to obtain during their normal primary or high school education.

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”

SPONSOR A CISCO STUDENT

April was the end of high school for Kenya’s Gr. 12 graduates. With the state of the economy right now, many are stuck at home with no hope of any useful activity in the immediate future. We would like to see more of these young people coming to Elimu Resource Centre to get important 21st Century Skills that they have not yet acquired through their normal primary or secondary education.

To sponsor a student to Elimu’s Cisco Networking Academy click here to go to our donation page and type in SPONSOR A CISCO STUDENT in the message box. One IT Essentials Course is CAD$160 or USD$120.
