Youth Futures Programs

Youth Futures Programs

Our programs help guide youth through the sensitive transition to tertiary education, future employment or business start-up. We want to be the source of solutions for youth, especially those who cannot afford further studies on their own and are at risk of joblessness or under-employment. Today, we offer valuable information and exposure to skills and opportunities to help youth chart their pathway to their own better futures.

Annual Youth Info Forums

High school students and out-of-school youth are introduced to services and products relevant to their career growth. We offer networking opportunities with leaders in business, education, technology and government. We introduce them to other options for their future that many times they are not aware of – including vocational training, jobs in the “Blue Economy” and online work.

Supporting Innovation

Young entrepreneurs find a conducive work space with internet access to research and grow their business ideas and accelerate their development. Through entrepreneurship training, young entrepreneurs learn to upskill and increase profitability of their businesses. Students and alumni from our sewing project gain digital literacy and business skills as they learn to use technology to modernize their businesses.

Cisco Networking Academy

Our ERC Cisco Networking Academy prepares youth for the digital economy. It is the first in Kilifi County and one of the first in the Coast province of Kenya. It is Elimu’s solution for providing hands-on digital experience to prepare youth, especially after high school graduation, for future study and work in the modern job market. Students pursue courses online at their level and at their own pace under the guidance of our Cisco certified instructor.

Graduates receive an official internationally-recognized Cisco certificate. Many have used their Cisco certificates to find work in the community. Others have discovered a passion for technology and continued on to further studies in IT.

We also transfer digital skills to other vulnerable populations in Malindi, like the “Boda Boda” motorcycle taxi drivers, many of whom have had no opportunity to handle a computer or continue their learning after school. They learn to easily manoeuvre the government e-portals for their licensing and registration needs which keeps them up-to-date and avoids trouble with law enforcement
