Elimu is proud to announce significant progress in the joint initiative with the County Government of Kilifi and Comundo to establish Muyeye and Roka Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) as dynamic Centers of Vocational Expertise (CoVEx).
The CoVEx model is centered on ensuring that VTC graduates are not just trained, but are genuinely job-ready. The cornerstone of this mission is the establishment of effective, localized career guidance systems that directly link training to market demand. This system is designed to provide students with the necessary mentorship, technical knowledge, and critical life skills needed to enhance their employability and successfully navigate the transition into dignified work.
Career Day: Bridging the Gap Between Training and Industry
A major milestone was achieved recently with a highly successful Career Day hosted at Muyeye VTC, spearheaded by the committed Muyeye Career Guidance Committee. This event was meticulously designed as a vibrant, interactive platform, successfully bringing together key stakeholders: our students, their supportive parents, and crucial industry players from the Kilifi community.
The day went beyond mere presentations. It created an essential space for students to:
- Engage with Professionals: Learn firsthand from industry leaders about the demands, opportunities, and future trajectories of diverse career fields.
- Showcase Competence: Students across all departments took center stage, demonstrating their innovation and technical mastery through hands-on project showcases. These practical displays validated the quality of the training received and the students’ readiness for real-world challenges.
Decoding CBET for the Community
A vital part of the session involved the Career Guidance Committee providing valuable clarity on the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) curriculum. This focus ensured that both learners and parents fully understood how this modern approach directly connects educational outcomes to genuine, available employment opportunities in high-growth sectors. By demystifying CBET, we are building greater community confidence and buy-in for vocational education as a preferred career path.
Visible Progress: A New Home for Skills
This exciting event was symbolically held in the newly constructed plumbing workshop—one of the key infrastructure improvements being realized under the CoVEx project. This facility is a tangible indicator of the commitment across all partners to upgrade and strengthen the environment in which our youth acquire skills.
