KPSEA Success for Learners at Malindi Education Centre (Prisons)

Elimu is pleased to share the release of the 2025 Grade 6 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) certificates for eight learners from Malindi Education Centre (Prisons) who sat for the national examinations. The results mark an important academic milestone for the learners, many of whom recorded strong performances despite studying in a highly constrained learning environment.

Overall, the cohort performed well, demonstrating steady progress across learning areas. Of particular note are Samuel and Safari, who attained the “Exceeding Expectations” category the highest level in the KPSEA grading system. Learners in this band receive between 7 and 8 points, corresponding to a score range of 75 to 100 marks, placing them among the top-performing candidates nationally.

Under Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), KPSEA results contribute 20 percent of a learner’s score used for placement into senior school. This means that strong performance at Grade 6 plays a significant role in shaping a student’s academic pathway beyond junior secondary. For Samuel, Safari, and their peers, these results give them a strong foundation as they prepare for the next stage of their education.

The achievement is especially significant given the context in which these learners study. Malindi Education Centre serves children within the prison system, many of whom face unique challenges that can affect access to consistent schooling, learning resources, and psychosocial support. That these learners were able to sit for the KPSEA and perform competitively is a testament to their resilience, commitment, and the efforts of their teachers and partners who continue to support their learning.

Elimu remains committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has access to quality education and the opportunity to succeed. The KPSEA results from Malindi Education Centre reinforce the importance of investing in learners in marginalized and high-need environments. As the eight candidates move forward in their academic journeys, Elimu celebrates their achievement and looks ahead to supporting them through the next phase of their education.
